Vibrant Cathedral Cove: NZ Landscape painting. An Original Acrylic Landscape Painting of Cathedral Cove in Hahei by Artist Kirsten McIntosh
Whilst spending some time at the beautiful Hahei Beach, in the Coromandel (North Island). I made the early morning trek to Cathedral Cove. The walk I needed to do by myself so I could stop and capture the beauty of it – truly spectacular. I took shots at every bay and breathtaking vistas.
So finally at the end of the walk you come to Cathedral Cove. There were a few people on the beach that morning but I decided to paint it in its serene form without anyone in view. The crystal clear waters are as they appear and it is well worth the walk.
On the whole a great portion of my paintings involve water. There is something special about being near the sea, surf, lakes or rivers.
I really enjoyed painting this piece – it seemed to just paint itself. Every brush stroke brought this painting to life in particular the limestone Cliffs in the background – just a touch of light makes a world of difference. I also especially enjoyed painting the wet sand and the different light that reflects off it.
Futhermore I always want my works to look consistent. Six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series. I definately will be painting more of this area and scenes from this one walk.
