Sunset on Raglan Hills: NZ Landscape Painting of the view of Raglan Harbour from the Childrens Camp by Kirsten McIntosh
Sunset on Raglan Hills: NZ Landscape Painting was taken whilst I was visiting my son Daniel’s primary school camp.
I took multiple shots whilst visiting him as it is a million dollar view. The incredible views extend for miles. The beautiful spot overlooks the Raglan Harbour, hills and township beyond. Later that evening I managed to capture this image of he amazing sunset. Furthermore the hills and the pink sky, is what I love, and the setting sun on the hills and farmland. It was a lovely time spent with my son at camp – fond memories that we will remember forever!
I think the hard part about this painting was creating the depth in the painting and making sure the trees all look accurate. In addition, my favourite part about this painting is the splash of light in the water, in this case that is where I wanted the main focus to be. Sunsets and their colours are notoriously hard to get right but I think all of the colours work really well.
For the most part I always want my works to look consistent. Hence only six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
