Port Waikato Road Scene 2: NZ Landscape Painting. An Acrylic painting of the drive out to Port Waikato painted by Kirsten McIntosh
Port Waikato Road Scene 2: NZ Landscape Painting came about when I entered an Art Exhibition/Competition with Franklin Art Festival. It was a festival that I wanted to be apart of as it had a good reputation. So my next mission was to obtain scenes from around that area and as I am drawn to the sea, I though lets head to Port Waikato!
On the drive to Port Waikato it is like another world – real kiwiana. I was intriqued by the roadside shacks and the ruggedness of the area. Whilst driving I was intriqued by this shack that was just above the water and I loved all of the different colours on the building.
My sons James and Daniel’s primary school quite often heads to school camps at Port Waikato so I often head out that way and pass by this scene.
As a rule I always want my works to look consistent. Hence only six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
