Pastel Shades of Maungatautari: NZ Landscape Painting is an Original Contemporary Resin painting of Maungatautari Mountain by Artist Kirsten McIntosh
The painting Pastel Shades of Maungatautari: NZ Landscape Painting is based off the image Rain over Taotaoroa Road and Mount Maungatautari. This was purchased from a professional photographer.
The strong colours of the image, the contrast and highlights on the hills. Versus the dramatic clouds is what I was drawn to. This is a very iconic piece of landscape in our town of Cambridge. Maungatautari is often described as toku maunga (my mountain). Furthermore my two sons and I have been on many school trips to this mountain. I have also traversed it which was spectacular. Consequently a trip to the birdlife sanctuary was made and it was incredible. It is a wonderful mountain to visit for so very many reasons!
The image is of Taotaoroa Road with in the distance, near Cambridge New Zealand.
The painting also has an acrylic underpainting to try and create depth.
For the most part I always want my works to look consistent. Hence only six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
Pastel Shades of Maungatautari: NZ Landscape Painting is an experimental painting. This is a different style of painting for me stepping into abstract/contemporary. I was drawn to the pouring resin technique.
I like all of the colours and how they merge together.
Please note that due to the reflective nature of resin the photograph is showing some reflections.
This artwork is currently getting exhibited through the Auckland Art Show Online Exhibition running from Friday September 18 – Sunday September 21st 2020.
