Original acrylic painting of the Mount Maunganui round the base walk painted by Kirsten McIntosh – ‘Mauao Caught by the Morning Sun’
Mauao Caught by the Morning Sun has recently been updated. This picture was taken whilst I walked around the base of Mount Maunganui. Mauao which was caught by the Morning Sun.
The painting was originally named Rabbit Island. The island you can see through the beautiful Pohutukawas. I thought that I would update this painting so I added some rich red flowers to the Pohutukawa trees.
It is a spectacular walk which many people do every day.
Mount Maunganui is a very special place for my family and I. We use to holiday there as children. We spent many fun filled hours at the Mount. For example we would swim, fish and of course walk up and around the Mount. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful walks I have been on with every corner uncovering an amazing view. Because of this my two boys and I recently walked it and undoubtedly found an adventure along the way.
The challenge in this painting was the sea and the rocks and all of the tree foliage, however it was a very enjoyable process.
On the whole a great portion of my paintings involve water. There is something special about being near the sea, surf, lakes or rivers.
As a rule I always want my works to look consistent. Hence only six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
