This piece is hand painted on a box canvas. This painting has many acrylic and oil layers that build up the colours and depth.

Lunch at Huka: An Original NZ Landscape painting of the scene from Huka Lodge in Taupo by Artist Kirsten McIntosh
Lunch at Huka painting came about from a visit to the amazing Huka Lodge. As a marriage gift my husband and I were given a voucher to attend a luncheon at the glorious spot. Everything about it was spectacular from the great food, wine and especially the scenery. I managed to capture quite a few great images that day and I hope to paint some of these lovely special moments.
As with most of my paintings they contain water and I was drawn to this particular shot due to the nature of the water and how it winds its way down to the vista beyond.
I particularly enjoyed painting this piece as it has a very tranquil feel about it. I did have a few problems with the foliage in the forefront as it is so dark it is hard to make out what type of plants these are to paint as I do want to make it accurate and fit in with the landscape.
Futhermore I always want my works to look consistent. Six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
